Accreditation demonstrates that Contour has successfully completed a recognised pre-qualification process covering areas such as quality, compliance, governance and supply chain assurance.

UL
UL Certification
Our in-house clean room is certified to ISO 14644 Class 7 (equivalent to FED STD 209E Class 10,000). This controlled manufacturing environment is essential for medical device assembly, optical interconnects, and any application where bio-burden and particulate contamination must be controlled throughout production.
Aerospace Quality Management
Our quality systems and operational processes are aligned with the requirements of AS9100, supporting customers operating within aerospace and defence sectors. Contour Electronics is progressing through the AS9100 certification programme as part of our ongoing commitment to quality, compliance and continual improvement.
NDAA
NDAA Approved
Selected products in our CCTV and surveillance range are NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) compliant. NDAA Section 889 compliance confirms products do not contain components from specific prohibited manufacturers – a requirement for US federal, defence, and government procurement programmes. Product dependent.

IPC-A-620 is the globally recognised acceptability standard for cable and wire harness assemblies. Compliance with IPC-620 confirms our assembled cable products meet the workmanship, material, and inspection requirements accepted throughout the electronics and defence industries.

WEEE Directive Compliance
As a supplier of interconnect products — components and sub-assemblies — Contour Electronics does not directly produce Electrical and Electronic Equipment (EEE) as defined in Annex 1A of the WEEE Directive. We work with customers and supply chain partners to support responsible end-of-life management of the products in which our components are incorporated.

Railway
Electronic Equipment – Rolling Stock for Railway Applications
EN 50155 covers the requirements for electronic equipment used on rolling stock in railway applications – including environmental conditions, power supply variations, vibration, shock, and temperature range. Products meeting EN 50155 are qualified for installation in trains, trams, and rail vehicles.

EN 45545 is the European fire safety standard for railway vehicles. It defines requirements for the fire behaviour of materials used in railway rolling stock – covering flame spread, smoke density, and toxicity. Compliance is a mandatory requirement for products installed in passenger rail vehicles.

UNECE Regulation No. 10 covers electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) for the automotive industry. It requires that every vehicle and electronic sub-assembly sold in UNECE member countries meets defined EMC requirements – ensuring electronic systems do not interfere with each other or with external equipment.

UNECE Regulation No. 46 covers devices for indirect vision and their installation on motor vehicles – including mirrors and camera monitor systems (CMS). Products designed as e-mirror or camera-based mirror replacement systems must comply with R46 to be approved for road use in UNECE member countries.

Fire Safety
Fire Safety – PSV (Public Service Vehicles)
UN Regulation No. 118 governs the combustion behaviour and fuel resistance of materials used in the interior of M3 category vehicles — those with more than eight passenger seats and over 5 tonnes maximum mass. Five test methods assess lateral flame spread, horizontal burn rate, melting behaviour, vertical burn rate, and flame spread resistance. Compliance is determined by product type and mounting location.

The E11 mark is specific to the United Kingdom and indicates that approvals have been accredited by the UK Vehicle Certification Agency (VCA). The E11 mark on automotive and vehicle equipment confirms compliance with applicable UN regulations as assessed by the UK’s designated approval authority.

Market Access
UK & European Conformity Assessment
The UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) marking indicates conformity with applicable requirements for products sold within Great Britain, introduced at the end of the Brexit transition period. The CE marking continues to be accepted in the UK market alongside UKCA. Both markings confirm that products meet the applicable legislative requirements for their product category in their respective markets.

Ingress protection and impact resistance classifications for enclosures and electronic equipment
IEC 60529
IP Rating – Ingress Protection
IP ratings, defined by IEC 60529, grade the resistance of an enclosure against the intrusion of solid objects and liquids. The rating comprises two numerals: the first (0–6) rates protection against solid particles including dust; the second (0–9) rates protection against water ingress. Higher ratings indicate greater protection, enabling customers to select products appropriate for their installation environment — from indoor use to submersible applications.
EN 62262 / IEC 62262
IK Rating – Impact Protection
IK ratings classify the degree of protection provided by an enclosure against external mechanical impact, as defined by European Standard EN 62262 (equivalent to international standard IEC 62262). High IK ratings indicate products suitable for environments where physical impact is likely — including industrial areas, high-traffic public spaces, vehicles, schools, and prisons where equipment is exposed to accidental or deliberate physical contact.

North American Safety Standards

IPC-A-620
Cable & Harness Acceptability Standard
IPC-A-620 (Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies) is the industry-standard workmanship specification for cable assembly manufacture. Our compliance with IPC-620 is verified through continuous process monitoring, operator qualification, and production audits at both UK and Far East manufacturing sites.
NDAA §889
National Defense Authorization Act
Selected products in our CCTV and fleet surveillance range are approved under NDAA Section 889, confirming they do not incorporate components from entities prohibited under US federal law. NDAA compliance is an increasingly common requirement for fleet, transport authority, and government-related procurement programmes in the UK and internationally. Product dependent — please enquire.
